KrackCorn might just be its own flavor

I was seeing KrackCorn everywhere. At the grocery store, at the hardware store, possibly in my dreams. I mentioned this to my friend Mitch and he told me I had to get some. So finally I kracked (I’m sorry) and bought a bag when I was in line at the local hardware store. Turns out, he was right. (side note: when did hardware stores become a great source of unique snacks?)

KrackCorn review

The people who make KrackCorn are based out of Englewood, Colorado, a city just south of Denver. That probably explains why I see it everywhere out here in Colorado and basically nowhere else. Also, they tell an interesting family origin story:

This treat was kept in the family recipe book, and only brought out during family Holiday gatherings for far too long. After making hundreds of batches in our home kitchen to share with friends, we knew this was a snacking delight that everyone needed to have! We got to work, and with a little help from food scientists, design experts, and oh yes, a 2-year old as our taste tester, KrackCorn® can now be your treat that’s FUN to eat.

So now that we have a little background on KrackCorn, let’s talk about the different flavors they make. The bag I bought is…uh…it has no flavor? There’s no indication of a flavor on the bag! You’ve got popcorn, bursting from a brown liquid and that’s it. And that brown liquid flavor is the only flavor they sell. So maybe the flavor is just KrackCorn?

How Does It Taste?
Delicious. It’s extremely sweet, but also a tiny bit buttery. On top of that, whatever the coating is, it creates a crunchy layer around what turns out to be a soft popcorn inside. That crunch and soft combination, along with the buttery sweetness, kept me digging back into the bag over-and-over. (did you know that different texture combination has a name: Dynamic Contrast)

Appearance and Expectations
The lack of a specific flavor and the weird brown liquid on the front of the bag definitely set some improper expectations because the KrackCorn inside the bag is actually more of a light brown or even yellow popcorn. The bag design feels straight out of the 90s Xtreme era. If KrackCorn wants to expand out of Colorado, I’d say they need a bag refresh and maybe need to just call it a caramel flavor even if that’s not 100% accurate.

Overall Opinion
This is definitely getting added to my sweet snack rotation. The sweetness, the bit of butteriness, the crunch + softness. It was very hard to stop and put the bag away to save some for later. I don’t think I’m going to have it in the house at all times, like say a jar of chili crisp, but it’s definitely going to be a staple that I look for at the grocery store (or hardware store) when craving something sweet.

Rating

4/5 Adam Heart Eyes. Was tempted to go to 4.5 but that bag…
